The City...

This is not about the City of London, nor any other English City.  It is about Brechin City (nickname, "The City"), my adopted Scottish footy team.  Not one of the most successful or glamorous clubs, and certainly not a name mentioned alongside Celtic or Rangers, I just started following their fortunes as a young boy.

I've often said that supporting a sports team in the UK is very different to the US, and there is no obligation to follow a "major league" team.  Brechin City very much fits the bill.

Founded in 1906 with the merging of two local junior sides, Brechin Harp and Brechin Hearts, the club is probably best known for its home ground!  Glebe Park is generally considered to be the most picturesque stadium in British football.

On the pitch, the club has met with little success over the years.  Currently in Scottish League One (th third tier of Scottish professional football), Brechin have never competed in the top tier of Scottish football.  Their main achievements are four-time champions of the third tier, and runners-up of the Scottish Challenge Cup (not open to top level teams) in 2002-2003.

Here is a short documentary, with a good look at Glebe Park.
