Things to Come...

Things to Come was a film released in 1934.  Starring Raymond Massey, Ralph Richardson, and Cedric Hardwicke, the film was based on the book of the same name, written by H.G. Wells.  An incredible - and very thought-provoking - look at progress, I will undoubtedly cover the film in more detail at a later date.  This post will focus on the film's soundtrack

The reason that I have chosen today for this, is the fact that the Things to Come suite was composed by Sir Arthur Bliss, who died on 27th March 1975.

Sir Arthur Bliss CH KCVO, was born in Barnes (in London) on 2nd August 1891.  His musical career was interrupted by WWI, in which he served with distinction in the British army.  A fairly prolific composer, Bliss was also extremely versatile, with the usual catalogue of orchestral and chamber works being accompanied by several ballets, music for brass band (not uncommon in the UK), a surprising number of fanfares, a solitary organ piece, and three operas.

Then, there is his work in film, television, and radio.  The Things to Come suite is perhaps his best loved work.
