German - English and Welsh...

Another typically - and deliberately - obtuse title, it should soon become clear.  The "German" is Sir Edward German.  German (1862-1936) was an English composer, born in the town of Whitchurch, Shropshire.  Although English, he was of Welsh ancestry (the family name was Jones).

Born German Edward Jones (German is an Anglicised form of the Welsh name "Garnon"), the young man became one of the most successful composers of the day.  Other than the standard orchestral works, German also ventured into songs and choral music, violin, piano, and woodwind works, and opera.

Here is Sir Edward German's Welsh Rhapsody from 1904.
