I Believe...

With Christmas just two days away, we return to look at some more wonderful British seasonal hits of years past.  After the Glam Rock posts of last week, you will find these a little more sedate!

Greg Lake - I Believe in Father Christmas
Greg Lake (of ELP fame) wrote the music, and added lyrics by Peter Sinfield to
provide one of the great Christmas songs.  Recorded in 1974, and released in November 1975,
it was kept from the Number 1 slot by Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody.  Lake claims that the
song is a protest at how commercialised Christmas now is.

Queen - Thank God It's Christmas
Perhaps not as well known as some of the other Christmas singles, that may well be a result
of no promotional video being released.  Written by Brian May and Roger Taylor, the
song was released in November 1984, and reached Number 21 in the UK.

John Lennon & Yoko Ono - Happy Xmas (War is Over)
In these troubled times, there seems no other way to end my pre-Christmas posts.  Charting in
the UK on ten different occasions, it reached Number 4 in 1972, and improved on that by two
places in 1980 - immediately after Lennon's assassination.
