The Weekend's Events...

As most of you will know, Britain has a new Princess, the Princess of Cambridge.  Born to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana is understandably grabbing most of the headlines over there!  However, there were some other events from the last few days, particularly from the world of sport, but some were not so good, even tragic.  Here are a few of the items...

We start with the tragic death of Danny Jones, the Welsh international rugby league star.  Jones, 29, collapsed during Saturday's clash with the London Skolars,  After an injury early in the game, it is believed that the father of five-month-old twins suffered a cardiac arrest.

This morning, there was the sad news that England football legend Jimmy Greaves was in hospital after suffering a stroke yesterday.  Greaves scored a club record 220 goals for Tottenham, and 44 goals (from 57 games) for England.

On a lighter note, Chelsea secured the Premier League title, while the Cherries fromBournemouth lifted the Championship, and have been promoted to football's top tie for the very first time in their history!  Burton Albion are League Two Champions.

North of the border, Celtic grabbed their fourth successive Premiership, while Greenock Morton won Scottish League Two.

On to the Crucible in Sheffield, and the final of the World Snooker Championship. Stuart Bingham fought back to take a 14-11 lead over former World Champion Shaun Murphy.  The final session of play is due to start in a few minutes.

Although not actually competing in the UK, Andy Murray won his first ever clay court title at the Munich Open.  The Scot beat Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber in three sets.

Coventry strengthened their position at the top of speedway's Elite League, thanks to a 47-42 victory at Lakeside.  Top scorers for the Bees were Danny King (13), and reserve Jason Garrity (11).  In the Premier League, Peterborough closed the gap on leaders Sheffield with a 12-point win at Plymouth.
