What Does It Mean? (Answers)...

So, it's time for the answers to the little quiz I posted the week before last.  I did receive correct answers for a couple of the terms, but that's all...

Panda car
An old, small British police car.

Chuffed (or chuffed to bits)
Very happy, elated; usually after winning or achieving something/

Bumph
Paperwork, often unnecessary or meaningless.

On the dole
Out of work, and receiving unemployment (dole money).

Black over Will's mother's
The sky is very dark and stormy looking.

O.A.P.
Old Age Pensioner; the equivalent of "senior citizen".

Abseiling
Rappeling; descending a rock face on a rope.

To throw a wobbly
To throw a tantrum, or "lose it".

Artic
Abbreviation for "articulated lorry", the British name for a semi truck.

Approved school
A "reform school", for youth criminals or out-of-control students.

NIMBY
Acronym for a person who opposes new developments in their area, often expressing a need for such developments, but "Not In My Back Yard".

Sat-nav
What the British call GPS (satellite navigation).

At sixes and sevens
Confused, muddled, "in a tizzy".

Punter
Originally, an individual who bets or gambles; having a "punt on the horses".  More generally, any customer or consumer; "It's what the punters want".


Kecks
Slang for trousers or pants; a common term in the north of England.
