Those Were They Days...

Today is a day for memories.  I have been going through some stuff online, and looking at how the area in which I grew up has changed in recent years.  In particular, I have been checking out all the pubs, shops, businesses, and various other buildings that have disappeared - or at least, are not the places they once were - so here a few of the things I remember...
Servio Radio

Servio Radio was a store in Wimbledon (the corner of Merton Rd, and Quicks Rd, just a couple of hundred yards from where my grandparents lived), that sold electrical components.  It was one of those little neighbourhood businesses that sold parts you couldn't find anywhere else!

Marquis of Lorne

Just a short walk from Servio Radio, at the other end of Quicks Rd, was the Marquis of Lorne, one of several pubs in Haydons Rd.  I played darts in there a few times.  Sadly, it is now in residential use after closing down seven years ago.

Granada Cinema, Tooting

One of many fabulous cinemas in the area, the Granada's last film was shown over 40 years ago.  It is now nothing more than a bingo hall.  At least the building is still there...

Reeves Corner, Croydon

This is very different from the pictures above.  Reeves Corner was named for the famed House of Reeves Furniture store, which was founded in 1867.  The riots of 2011 saw one of the company's two buildings at the site burnt down by the vandals.  Many other buildings in the area were severely damaged, and here is how the site looked a few months later.  So very sad, and completely and utterly pointless...

Wimbledon FC, Plough Lane

I am returning to Wimbledon for the last two photos.  These are a "before and after" pair of pics, taken at the site of the old football ground in Plough Lane.  I spent many happy hours there during my younger days, and it still breaks my heart that it is no longer there.  As you can see, it is now a residential development.

The photo of the ground is looking towards the houses in Plough Lane, with the West Bank (where I used to stand) on the right.  The other photo shows the same houses in Plough Lane on the extreme right.  Looking down Durnsford Rd to the left, that is where the main entrance to the ground was, along with the Sportsman pub.
